Yankee Doodle
Verse 1:
Yankee Doodle diddle, diddle, diddle,
He did not come to town with a whoop and a call.
He came with his gun,
And his face was all aglow,
He fired his gun, then he shouted “Yankee Doodle!”
Chorus:
Yankee Doodle, Dandy,
A fine unsmarty,
The king and the chimneysweep have a larky time.
Yankee Doodle, Dandy,
Come away home with me,
And we’ll have a good time, too.
Verse 2:
He played a hornpipe on the square,
And he danced with a girl,
And they danced all around,
Till they fell down and broke their crown.
Then he said “Yankee Doodle”, and they all shouted “Yankee Doodle!”
Chorus:
Yankee Doodle, Dandy, etc.
Bridge:
Now he’s a sailor on the sea,
And he’s gone to fight for his country.
And he’ll come back to us, safe and sound,
And we’ll have a good time then.
Then they all shouted “Yankee Doodle!”
Chorus:
Yankee Doodle, Dandy, etc.
